The Modified Sony ICF-36 is a subsidiary communications (subcarrier) radio designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision to receive subsidiary communication service (SCS) broadcasts. This modified radio provides FM radio and SCS subcarrier bands, as well as VHF TV audio and audio captioning for the blind (secondary audio programming or SAP). It is a medium size radio modified with an Elf-2 adapter and a switch to go from regular radio or TV to the special band, plus a control for 67-102.271 kilohertz (kHz) tuning for TV Pro channels. SCS programs include special programming for the blind, such as readings of daily newspapers, grocery ads, magazine articles, and news of special interest to blind listeners. POWER: Alternating current (AC) cord (included) or four double-A batteries (not included).
