BRIEF: Minneapolis veteran on 'Fishing Freedom' show Sunday morning

Saint Paul Pioneer Press - 1/25/2018

Jan. 25--A Minneapolis World War II veteran will be featured on the Sunday morning episode of "Operation: Fishing Freedom" on the Discovery Channel.

Bob Bray enlisted in the Navy during the war. He was an electrician and dodged shrapnel in one incident and worked to land troops and supplies on shore. Bray, now 91, talks about facing a typhoon in the episode.

The show, which started on Sportsman Channel, is in its second season and has moved to Discovery. According to Sportsman Channel, "Operation: Fishing Freedom" came from more than five years of taking U.S. military veterans fishing through a nonprofit organization co-founded by host Jay Garstecki. The nonprofit uses fishing to help veterans deal with post-traumatic stress. The stories that came out of fishing inspired the TV show.

The show is described as part historical documentary and part fishing show. Each 30-minute episode features a veteran sharing his/her story while fishing.

The episode featuring Bray airs at 7 a.m. Sunday on Discovery.
