BRIEF: MOAA, NHRMC create scholarships for veterans

Dec. 27--NEW HANOVER COUNTY -- The local SENCLand Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), and New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) have partnered to create scholarships for veterans. Given the need in the Allied Health and Nursing fields for qualified graduates, the scholarships are awarded to veterans who meet the following criteria: a military veteran who has been honorably discharged; a student in the Allied Health or Nursing Field; GPA of 2.5 or better.

Lauren Carter, US Army National Guard and Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran, and student in the Practical Nursing department of Brunswick Community College is a recipient.

Scott Springer, Marine Corps Veteran, and student in the Occupational Therapy department at Cape Fear Community College is also a recipient.

Matthew Riley, Marine Corps Veteran, and student in the nursing department at the University of North Carolina Wilmington has also received a scholarship.

All three recipients were awarded $700 each.
