Fergus Falls displays patriotism, thankfulness with Veterans Day events

Fergus Falls Daily Journal - 11/14/2017

Nov. 14--Veterans Day brought with it a series of patriotic events in Fergus Falls. Concerts, coffees and camaraderie were staples for the day.

Every year, Cleveland Elementary School puts on a show for Veterans Day. This year was no different, with music teacher Joni Wasberg leading the students through the program on Friday morning. Patriotic songs were sung by the students to a gym packed with parents, family and friends. The room was full of red, white and blue, with students and teachers wearing their country's colors.

This year, there was a surprise for Wasberg, as a video of her son, Sam Wasberg was played on the projector. Sam is a 2012 graduate of Fergus Falls who is in the military, and he thanked the veterans present for their service.

The students and audience were taught the meanings of each fold when properly folding the American flag, and there were several students involved in a short program about Veterans Day.

Each branch of the military was honored during the student performance and each student with an immediate family member who has served or is serving in the military was recognized with that family member.

At the Veterans Home, Rotary members brought dozens of roses to hand out. They recently had their bouquet fundraiser and thought the best way to use the leftover roses would be to surprise the veterans. Lois Josefson, Steve Leitte and Rod Scheel, brought roses from room to room and thanked them for their service.
