Wreaths, donations sought for graves of Texoma veterans

Herald Democrat - 9/23/2017

Sept. 23--The Civil Air Patrol'sTexoma Composite Squadron is asking for the public's help in funding the purchase of wreaths which will be laid at the graves of military veterans buried at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in December.

The wreaths will be distributed on Dec. 16 as part of National Wreaths Across America Day. An estimated 1,200 locations across the country will host ceremonies simultaneously this year in order to celebrate the lives and service of deceased veterans. The Texoma Squadron plans to place a wreath at the graves of all 1,300 service men and women buried at Cedarlawn Memorial.

"Every donation and wreath sponsorship is a meaningful gift from an appreciative supporter who knows what it means to serve and sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy," Wreaths Across America Executive Director Karen Worcester said. "We are so grateful to the communities of Sherman and Denison for participating in our mission to remember, honor and teach."

Each wreath sponsorship costs $15. Those who wish to purchase a wreath may contact CAP Lt. Col. Jeff Harrell at 903-815-4409 or visit the squadron's website at www.captexoma.org for a donation form. Donations in any amount can also be made at www.wreathsacrossamerica.com, but contributors who wish to reserve their donation for the veterans of Cedarlawn Memorial must specify their desired location and list the Texoma Composite Squadron as the intended recipient.

Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization founded in 1992. The group's mission is to continue and expand the traditional wreath-laying ceremonies conducted at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia to the graves of military veterans throughout the U.S.
