County Speedway and 'Hunting with Heroes' plan special race night for veterans

Kossuth County Speedway and "Hunting with Heroes" is planning a special race night for veterans and active military personnel on Thursday, July 27.

Those attending must show an ID at a dedicated ticket window. All veterans will be entered into a veteran's only raffle with dozens of prizes given away. Each attending veteran will receive a drink ticket at the gate and volunteers will serve veteran's beer, soda or water throughout the night at their seats.

There will be a live radio feed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and pork sandwiches in support of the Free Gate for veterans. There will also be a special Fareway foods trailer outside of the raceway in support of the veterans. Special veterans photos will be taken at 6 p.m.

In addition, there will be pre-race flyover, special national anthem and patriotic activities throughout the evening. Tad Reutzel's Modified will be fully wrapped in a new and exclusively patriotic theme. Wounded Warrior Marine Tank Commander Capt. James Nash will share thoughts from the battlefield.

Also, 10 veterans will take part in a special Modified feature event. Each of the 10 veterans will be assigned a car in the Modified feature, the top three finishing cars and their veterans will be welcomed on the track and honored for their service, the top three veterans will take photos with their drivers and Reutzel Wrapped Modified and the top finishing veteran will receive a $100 gift card, second a $50 gift card and third place a $25 gift card.

Hunting with Heroes is a nonprofit organization (501c3) focused on the physical and emotional healing of our nation's military heroes through community support, camaraderie, and hunting/fishing in the rural communities of Northern Iowa.
