Local partnership to create technology training program for veterans

The Herald News - 7/17/2017

JOLIET ? Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow will partner with Hines VA Hospital and the Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County to create a computer course for veterans to find careers in information technology.

A news release from the State's Attorney's Office said the official announcement will be held at the Hines VA Town Hall Meeting on Veterans Issues at 5 p.m. Monday. The meeting will take place at the Hines VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic, which is located at the former Silver Cross Hospital at 1201 Eagle St. in Joliet.

The A+ Certification Program will involve a quality instructional course to train 10 local veterans, who receive services through Hines VA Hospital and the local VAC, on computer technology.

"This is a great opportunity for veterans to learn more about their benefits and the great services we have available, not only at the Joliet clinic but the additional care available at the main Hines campus as well," Hospital Director Steven E. Braverman said in the release.

The clinic provides many services to veterans in Will County and the surrounding suburbs, including primary care, behavioral health and women's health.

The Hines VA Hospital offers primary, extended and specialty care for veterans. In 2016, the hospital completed more than 855,000 appointment for almost 59,000 veterans.
