Veterans honored at Magnolia Estates observance

Dec. 20--Magnolia Estates Senior Living held a Veterans Day observance to honor the veterans living at the facility on Virgil Langford Road in Watkinsville.

The event was hosted by the facility and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 2872 from Athens.

Those honored were Fred Blake, who served in the Navy, John Good of the Army, Bill Hendry of the Navy, and Richard Patrick, who served with the Navy, Army, Maries and Air Force.

The service speech was made by Ron Bowie, a retired pastor of the Salem Presbyterian in North Carolina, and other comments were contributed by Lindy Lively, Becky Edwards and Karen Britt.

Also recognized at the observance were women at the retirement home who are wives of veterans.

They are Dot Almond, Bobbie June Andrews, Betty Archer, Doris Blackwood, Doris Brady, Margaret Collins, Pat DeRamus, Ruby Hodgson, Edna Johnson, Billie Ann Nairn, Carol Nix, Evelyn Smith and Margaret Walinow.

A special observance of the event was highlighting the 100th anniversary of the ending of World War I in 1918.
