Local child mental health provider closes it doors, now what?

Canton Repository - 10/18/2018

Oct. 18--CANTON A mental health agency that specialized in counseling abused and vulnerable children will close Thursday.

The reason for Northeast Ohio Behavioral Health's closing is unknown. Executive Director Robin R. Tener, who had led the agency since 2002, didn't return messages seeking comment.

NEOBH was founded in 1999 and had offices in Jackson Township and Cuyahoga Falls. The agency had at least 21 clinical staffers who provided services to children, adolescents, adults, families and couples.

NEOBH specialized in custody, parenting and psychological evaluations, services for children who were adopted or in foster care, and services for children and parents in the child welfare system.

The agency also was part of Children's Network of Stark County, a center that brought together counselors, medical experts, social workers and law enforcement officers to help children and families cope with exposure to violence, sexual or severe physical abuse or human trafficking.

NEOBH, a for-profit agency, accepted Medicaid and took referrals from Stark County Job and Family Services.

Robert Myers, deputy director of Job and Family Services, said the county had made arrangements for any pending assessments to be completed by NEOBH and for counseling services to be moved to new providers.

Myers referred questions about the reason for NEOBH closing to Tener.

Myers said NEOBH would be missed, but Job and Family Services had reached out to Stark County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery and community partners to make sure no JFS clients go without services.

"I think we're fortunate here in Stark County because we have a good system," he said.

John Aller, Stark MHAR executive director, said Stark MHAR would help any NEOBH client find another treatment provider regardless of whether they had been involved with Job and Family Services.
